近些年有关文献对俞平伯晚年的红学思想时有披露。由此可知:俞平伯晚年虽甚少公开谈论红楼,但一直关心红学的进展,反思与关注代表了其观照红学的态度和方式。其对红学史的反思表现出可贵的客观和宽容精神,并在此基础上对作者、地点等问题提出新的见解。对当时不断升温并露出一些乱象的红学界,他十分清醒冷静,表现出谨慎的乐观态度。

The research of Redology by Yu Pingbo in his late years is discovered from time to time according to the latest relevant literature, from which we find that he concern himself with the development of Redology in his late years even though he seldom talked about it in public. Those reconsideration and concerns show his attitude and research manner to the development of Redology. On the basis of his valuable objectivity and tolerance to the history of Redology, he has provided us with his new opinions on some problems aroused in Redology such as the author and the place of the story. Furthermore, he kept quite calm and expressed his prudent optimism to the growing but a bit chaotic research in the field of Redology.
