The role of object similarity in analogical mapping has been a controversial issue. In this study a new paradigm referring to the design of embedding and separating cross-mapping was used to examine the role of object similarity in young children and adult.. Study 1 was to investigate whether the role of object similarity might vary well at different developmental levels. Study 2 applied the eye tracking technique to detect the role of object similarity in the whole time course by comparing targeted areas. The results suggested that object similarity influenced children's analogical mapping perforrnanee rather than adults'. However, it affected the course of analogical mapping processing of adults when object similarity embedded in relationship structure shared with ha.w-domain and target-domain pictures. The study underscored the importance of the view of primacy-constraint with alignment in explaining role of the object similarity in analogical mapping.
