Objective To understand the malaria knowledge in Yunnan border inhabitants. Methods A sample questionnaire survey was carried out about personal general, malaria knowledge and malaria history during 2002. Results The awareness rate of malaria knowledge of Yunnan border inhabitants was very low. The rates were significantly different among the different ages, genders, education levels, nationalities and disease histories. Multivariable analysis showed that the age, gender, education level and malaria history were the significant factors in effect on the malaria knowledge acquired, and their odd ratios were 3. 373, l. 210,2. 956 and 3. 698, respectively. Conclusions The awareness rate of malaria knowledge of Yunnan border inhabitants is very low. Their level of malaria knowledge needs to be raised, especially in young people, women and persons with low education level.
