This paper presents the concept of professional interior designer and the National Council for Interior Design Qualification （NCIDQ） Examination in US and Canada and the significance of the examination for P.R. China analyzed from the viewpoints of interior design concept, education, market measures, etc. It is pointed out that qualification examination is an important guarantee for public benefit and a necessary measure for a healthy interior design market.
