摘要
According to the long-wave theory, the world economy saw a four-phase development driven .respectively by industrial engines, namely, textile, iron and steel, electricity power and petrochemicals, and car-making during the two centuries from 1780 to 1980. However, since 1980 and it is expected that until the year of 2030, the on-going fifth period is to be powered by the information-related industries. In his talk given at the lecture series "Science and China" on June 7, Prof. WANG Yangyuan, a CAS Member from Peking University pointed out that China must grasp the opportunity to develop its integrated circuit (IC) industry as a dynamo for the information industry, so that Chinese economy might see a sustained, high-speed and steady development.
