The actions and functions of surfactants in various steps of leather making process were introduced. The applications of surfactants in various steps of leather making technological process influences the quality and performances of finished leather products to a big extent. The required performances of surfactants used in many various steps in leather making process were discussed. Some suggestions with respect to the development of application of surfactants in leather industry were provided.
