五四新文化运动时期,马克思主义在湖南得以迅速传播,是与新民学会的努力分不开的。新民学会的会员们通过各种渠道接受马克思主义后,通过创办刊物、成立进步团体、开办文化书社、创办新式学堂,以及与各种反马克思主义思潮论战等形式,将马克思主义在湖南传播开去,使马克思主义在湖南这片热土上扎下根,开花结果,使湖南成为当时宣传马克思主义最有成效、也最富有朝气的省分。

During the new cultural movement of the May 4th Movement, Marxism in Hunan gained prompt propagation, which was tightly related with Xin Min institute. Xin Min institute members embraced Marxism through various channels, after which they started publications, set up progressive group,established cultural bookstores, established new style schools sand debated with various trends of thoughts opposing Marxism,with mersures Marxism was spread broadly in Hunansand bloomed,born fruits on the hot piece of soil of Hunan, and Hunan became the one most effectly propagating Marxism with richest youthful spirit that time.
