China's first direct broadcasting satellite SinoSat-2 was launched into the preset orbit by a LM-3B launch vehicle from Xichang Satellite Launch Center on October 29, 2006. It was the 93rd launch mission of the LM series launch vehicle. Unfortunately, SinoSat-2 failed less than a month after being launched into orbit, the operator of the satellite, Sino Satellite Communications Company Ltd. (SINOSAT), announced on November 28. In its statement, SINOSAT said the satellite has unfortunately suffered serious technical anomaly, causing the deployment of its solar arrays and communications antennas unable to be completed. The spacecraft is thus unable to be put into broadcasting and telecommunications services.
