Effect of subinhibitory concentrations of antibiotics on the adhesion of human bifidobacterial strains to cultured human intestinal epithelial cells was investigated. Results showed that subinhibitory concentrations of antibiotice may decrease bifidobacterial adhesion to intestinal epithelial cells in vitro significantly. Penicillin and vancomycin reduced bifidobacterial adhesion to intestinal epithelial cells dose-dependently and time-dependently. The results suggest that antibiotics might influence intestinal bacterial microecology by mechanism of inhibition of bifidobacterial adhesion to intestinal epithelial cells.
