战国时期“雎”字人名考释

A Philological Study on “睢” in Names

战国时以“雎”字为人名于通行的历史著作及中国历史人名辞典或作“雎”或作“睢”,歧异迭出。尽管当前通用作“睢”,但如果考之于古代人名用字规律、史书中此字的异文情况及古代学者的音注,可知“睢”当为“雎”之讹误字。

In the Warring States period there were three historical characters： Fan Ju （范雎） was the prime minister of Qin Zhao King,Tang Ju （唐雎） lived in Kingdom Wei,and Zhao Ju （昭雎） was a minister of Kingdom Chu. In the vulgate historic works and the name dictionaries of Chinese historical characters,the word Ju（雎） is more often written as Sui（睢） ,and the disagreement continuous. However, after probing into the rule of ancient names, the different instances of this word in historic works and the phonetic transcriptions for this word by ancient scholars, the author draws the conclusion that Sui（睢） is the erroneous expression for Ju（雎）.
