摘要
本文阐述今后数学的发展趋势至少有三个方面:(1)数学家为追求数学本身的古典价值观念,即数学的内在美或抽象美而继续研究;(2)数学与理论物理及自然科学相结合;(3)数学与工程学相结合。文中并对当代理工科院校的青年人致力于数学研究的兴趣、必要性和方法,作了许多鼓励和有益的启示。
In this article, the author dwells on the future development of mathematics at least in the following three aspects :
1. Mathematicians will make a further study of the classical concept of value - the inner beauty or the abstract beauty of mathematics.
2. Mathematics, theoretical physics and natural science will be integrated.
3. Mathematics will be combined with engineering.
In addition to his valuable enlightenment on the necessity and method of conducting researches in mathematics,the author gives great encouragement to the young people in present-day colleges of science and engineering to cultivate their interest in this field.
