本文阐述了在构建和谐社会与新课改的背景下,教育应该重新审视自身,肩负起时代和历史赋予的责任,视培养学生的民主精神为己任．民主精神应该包含以下五方面的内容:平等精神、理性精神、宽容精神、妥协精神、建设精神．全民民主精神的培养需要教育,教育可通过教育体制改革、尊重学生权益、法律保障、班级自主管理、德育、教师民主等方面来培养民主精神．

The thesis expounds under the background of constructing the harmonious society and the new curriculum reform, education should scrutinize itself again, and undertake the responsibility entrusted by era and history, and regard bringing up students＇ democratic spirit as its duty. Democratic spirit should contain the following five respects： equal spirit, rational spirit, relenting spirit, compromise spirit and constructive spirit. The cultivation of the whole people＇s democratic spirit needs education; education can bring up democratic spirit through the reform of education system, respecting students＇ rights and interests, legal safeguard, class management independently, moral, and teachers＇ democracy.
