On Chinese Names Translated from the Uyghur People

维吾尔族是中华民族大家庭中的古老民族之一,其族名历代译写繁多。1934年,维吾尔族文化促进会呈文新疆省政府,请将“维吾尔”三字核定为汉文规范的维吾尔族名,新疆省政府在认真听取各方面的意见后,予以核准。

The Uyghur is an ancient ethnic group of Chinese nationality. The translated versions of the Uyghur nationality are diversified in history. 1934, Xinjiang Uyghur Cultural Promotion Association handed a document to Xinjiang Provincial Government asking foz the standard Chinese name of the Uyghur nationality. The Government approved it after considering opin- ions of all walks of llfe.
