THE BEWILDERMENT AND BREAK OF MODERNITY——On Giddens's and Beck's Reflecxive Theory of Modernization

冷战的结束和经济全球化的加速使西方福利国家原本稳定的社会秩序受到冲击,引发了社会性的困惑与反思。自反性现代化理论认为,工业现代化正处于全面的自我颠覆之中,早期现代性将被高级现代性所取代。这一理论体现了从现代性的困境中突围而出的企图,但由于对现实的片面认识和深层制度分析的缺乏,这一目标最终在不精确的概念与混乱的逻辑推理中归于失败。

The end of the Cold War and the acceleration of economic globalization impact the former stable social order of the western welfare states and brings about bewilderment and reflection all over the world. Reflective modernity theory insists that industrial modernization is in complete self-overthrow, and earlier modernity will be replaced by advanced modernity. The theory expresses the attempt to break out of the dilemma of modernity, but because of the one-sided understanding of reality and the lack of analysis about the deep structure, such an attempt finally fails due to the inaccurate conceptualization and the confusion of reasoning.
