摘要
18世纪是英国资产阶级兴起的时期,新的阶级以积极的态度在政治、经济、思想和文化等方面的公共领域全面参与,以此来建构本阶级独有的意识形态。他们非常关注社会道德,力图使之成为资本主义社会个人身份和社会制度得以确立的途径。文学家们出于同一目的而在作品中积极进行道德说教,道德内容的转变影响到了作品的叙述策略,这为小说的兴起奠定了基础。
The eighteenth century is the period witnessing the rise of British bourgeois. The new class actively participated in the public spheres in order to construct the unique ideologies of their own. They showed great solicitude for the social morality and tried to make it the means to mould the self-identity of individuals. For the same purpose, men of letters of that time preached moral didacticism in their works. The transformation of the moral content exerted the influence on the narrative strategies, which paved the road for the rise of the novel.
