Harmonious Culture:Organic Combination of Traditional Wisdom and Modern Civilization

与社会主义和谐社会目标相适应的社会主义和谐文化,应该既具有传统文化根基,也符合现代社会要求。为了培育融传统智慧与现代文明于一体的社会主义和谐文化,我们在汲取传统的“和”观念的智慧的同时,要努力开掘与“和”的价值相联系的其他传统价值,要重视对这些传统价值作现代诠释,寻找在当前情况下支撑这些价值的制度安排和社会载体,尤其要用现代思维方法对“和而不同”的含义和要求作确切的分析。

The harmonious socialist culture, corresponding with the objectives of harmonious socialist society, should have its root on traditional culture and at the same time, meet the demands of modern society. In order to cultivate harmonious socialist culture which is the organic combination of traditional wisdom and modern civilization, we should work hard to discover other traditional values relating to the value of 'harmony' while drawing wisdom from the traditional concept of 'harmony'. Attentions should be paid to make modern interpretation of those traditional values, look for systems and social carriers to support those values under current situation, and in particular, to make definite analysis of the content and demand of 'harmony while reserving difference' with modern way of thinking.
