A Cultural Approach to the study and comparison of the Chinese and English Language

在解释语言意义和文化概念的基础上着重通过英汉民族各自具有的文化的五种主要表现形式探讨了英汉两种语言的文化特色和内涵,指出文化的内涵事实上弥散于语言符号系统及其言语活动的方方面面,具有鲜明的民族特性。语言作为文化大系统中的子系统不能独自存在,它必定受到文化的深刻影响,两者相互影响又相互依存。

This essay tries to explore into the cultural aspects and their implications embedded in the Chinese and English languages through clarifying, first of all, the concept of language and that of culture, focusing on the five main cultural manifestations of and comparisons between the said languages. It points out that any language, as a sub-system of the system of culture at large, is inevitably strongly influenced by the culture in which language is contained.
