Thirty cases (60ears) of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia and 22 cases (44 ears) of normal newborn infantswere tested by Auditory Brainstem Evoked Response (ABER) and Evoked otoacoustic Emissions (EOAEs).The percentage of abnormal ears in the 30 patients were 41. 67% (ABER) and 33- 33% (EOAEs) while thepercenage of abnormal ears in the normal neonates were 1% and 6. 8% respectirely. Meanwhile we foundthat the higher concentrations of bilirubin in serum the more abnormal ears in patients. The acoustie haircells were damaged in one-third of the patients. These indicated that neonates suffered from hyperbilirubinemia had a bigh rate of damage in anditory system
