To investigate soot and NO x formation in diesel engine, the uniform premix combustion system and conventional combustion system are used in a 1.4 L diesel engine to be researched for the relation between flame temperature, soot and NO x formation. The results show that the soot forms in higher temperature and lower oxygen concentration zones in engine cylinder. The longer high temperature period will increase the NO x formation, and that the uniform premix combustion can reduce soot and NO x formation.
