Following the end of Cold War, both Russia and EU were confronted with the arduous task of internal transition and rebuilding foreign relations. In this process, developing Russian-EU relations was highly decisive to rebuilding the post-Cold War European pattern, to the Russian transition at home and to the deepening and expansion of the EU. Since its independence, Russia has developed its relations with the European Union steadily and profoundly as compared with its relations with other large countries and regions. The emergence of such positive momentum is highly associated with the mechanism built on the basis of interdependence between Russia and Europe in geopolitical, economical, political and security areas.
