Objective To determine the serum level of vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) in colorectal carcinoma and the relationship between scram VEGF and clinical pathological stage in colorectal carcinoma patients before operation and study whether the serum VEGF level can be a tumor marker of diagnosis and prognosis of eoloreetal carcinoma in the diagnosis and accompanying of eoloreetal carcinoma. Methods ELISA determined the serum VEGF. Results The serum VEGF level of 39 colorectal carcinoma patients before the operation was analyzed. Patients with Dukes stage C and D disease had significantly( P 〈 0.05) higher levels of VEGF than patients with Dukes stage A and B. Patients with lymphode metastasis had significantly ( P 〈 0.05) higher levels of VEGF than patients without lymphode metastasis. Patients with organ metastasis had significantly ( P 〈 0.05) higher levels of VEGF than patients without organ metastasis. The serum VEGF level was significantly lower in well- moderate differentiated carcinoma than in moderate- poorly differentiated one. There were no significant correlation among gender, age with serum VEGF ( P 〉0. 05). Conclusion VEGF with important significance for diagnosis and stage and prognosis of colorectal carcinoma. VEGF can be a tumor marker for diagnosis and stage and prognosis of colorectal carcinoma.
