The paper presents some key results from large- scale laboratory experiments designed to measure fundarnental aspects of wave - generated sand transport processes. The experiments were carried out in the Large Oscillating Water Tunnel (LOWF) at Delft Hydraulics and in the Aberdeen Oscillatory Flow Tunnel (AOFT) at Aberdeen University, and cover a wide range of flow and sand conditions. Results from both the ripple regime and the sheet flow regime are presented, giving insights into the fundamental processes in each case. The inherent unsteadi- ness of wave - generated sand transport is highlighted.
