The Author of Journey to the West Mustn’t Be WuCheng’en——A Survey of Recent Overseas Discussion on the Final Author of Journey to the West

日本学者太田辰夫、矶部彰和中野美代子等,在探求《西游记》定稿人与全真教教义及其道士的关系方面,进行了许多开拓性的研究。虽然,其中的一些论者限于一般道教知识而不太了解中国全真教地域性秘史,不太了解明代道教内部正一、全真两派的分歧斗争,但他们的开拓毕竟早于中国现当代论界数十年,应予借鉴。

Japanese scholars Oda Tatsuo, Isoba Akira and Nakano Miyoko, etc. have made some pioneering research on who finalized the manuscript of Journey to the West and whether the novel was related to the teachings and Taoist priests of Quanzhen. Although the conclusions of some researchers still remain to be further studied since they knew little about regional mystery of Chinese Quanzhen and the struggle between Zhengyi and Quanzhen which were two sects of Taoism in Ming dynasty for their lack of general knowledge of Taoism, their research made 10 years earlier than that of Chinese deserves our reference.
