This review discussed sonographic and Doppler characteristics of different types of ectopic pregnancy （EP）. Some problems were emphatically discussed： Sonographic comparison of the tubal ring of EP with the corpus luteum; to discriminate gestational sac with pseudo-sac; the predictive vale of endometrial thickness and pattern in distinguish intrauterine from extrauterine pregnancy. And characterised relative superiorities of various new ultrasonographic techniques, transvaginal sonography （TVS） combine with color Doppler power imaging （CDPI） was considered sensitive and specific for the diagnosis of tubal pregnancy, but 3D, 4D ultrasound and contrast agent were more used for diagnosis of rare site pregnancy, were considered superior to conservative 2D ultrasound.
