As an important commercial city on northern bank of the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia area, Baotou was just a wild and remote village based on nomadic economy before Yongzheng and Qianlong era of Qing Dynasty. In the early years of Guangxu era, as the penetration of foreign capitalism, Baotou developed as a border trade city focusing on fur - trading. Thus it can be seen that the development of fur - trading is the key reason for the rise of Baotou. The Hui people, who always mean "business spirit" in China, played an important role in this process.
