Analects of Confucius and Chinese Ethos

民族精神是一个民族的民族品格、道德观念和价值准则的总和。《论语》内涵的民族精神主要是:“为政以德”的道德意识、“仁者爱人”的人文品格、“文质彬彬”的君子风范、经世致用的价值取向等等。这些内涵经过历代的演化和传播已经成为中华民族精神的重要组成部分。

The ethos is the assembly of character, moral notions and value criteria pecuhar to a specific nation. The ethos connoted in the .Analects of Confucius is the moral sense of ＂governing with morals＇, the humanistic spirit of ＂loving the people＂, the gendemanly demeanor of ＂behaving politely＂ and the value orientation of applying what is experienced. These connotations have become the important elements of the Chinese ethos through ages of evolution and development.
