A Comparative Study of Spatial Metaphors of Time in English and Chinese from the Perspective of Cognitive Linguistics

时间概念是通过其他概念来认知的。认知语言学认为时间概念是由空间概念隐喻而来的。通过从认知的角度对比探讨英汉两种语言中有关时间的空间隐喻,说明隐喻在人类语言中的普遍性和各民族认知的共性。同时,隐喻概念因深受民族社会文化等因素的影响,也存在着一定的跨文化差异。

The concept of time is recognized through other concepts. View from the perspective of cognitive linguistics, time concept comes from the spatial metaphor. Through a comparative study of spatial metaphors of time in English and Chinese, the universal existence of metaphor in language and the common features of human cognition among all nations are approved. The distinctions in the detailed application of metaphorical concept due to national, social and cultural differences are demonstrated.
