“吉老”是哈萨克族民间的古老史诗歌手,是哈萨克族英雄史诗等古老民间韵文长篇作品的再创作者和演唱者。“吉老”与吉尔奇、阿肯等民间说唱艺人相比既有共性又有个性。“吉老”不但是民间文学的创作者、演唱者和传承者,而且是统治者、领导者或捍卫本部落利益的勇士。“吉老”这种史诗歌手的出现与其所处的自然环境、生活方式和历史条件不无关系。

＂Ji Lao＂ is an epic singer among the Kazak nationality. And he is also a recreator and singer of Kazak heroic long epic with rhyme. Comparing with Jierqi,Aken and other talking and singing artists,＂Jilao＂ has something in common with them and his own personality as well. ＂Ji Lao＂ is not only a writer, a singer, a successor but also a ruler, a leader and a warrior safeguarding the benefit of his own tribe. There is something closly connected with the natural environment, way of life and historical conditions for the outcome of the epic singers as ＂Ji Lao＇.
