Jiangnan Buddhism and Initial Development of Japanese Buddhism

中日佛教交流历史悠久。本文主要阐述了佛教在江南的初期发展及其特征,并基于史实叙述了佛教如何传入日本并且被接受。从而可以看出日本佛教是由江南地区传入的佛教,二者具有相同的特征。同时,由于江南佛教的传入,日本汉字读音中的吴音成立了,与汉音并列为日本汉字发音的两大体系。因此,江南佛教在中日佛教文化的交流历史中具有重要的历史价值。

The exchange of Buddhism between China and Japan has a long history. This paper presents the initial development and characteristics of Buddhism in Jiangnan, and how Buddhism came into Japan and was accepted based on history. Then it can be proved that Japanese Buddhism evolved from Jiangnan Buddhism and both exhibit identical features. At the same time, because of the introduction of Jiangnan Buddhism, the Wu accent in the Japanese language was established and together with the Han accent, became one of the two important systems in the pronunciation of the Chinese characters in Japanese. Therefore, Jiangnan Buddhism plays an important role in cultural exchanges between Chinese and Japanese Buddhism.
