A programmable gain amplifier(PGA) is designed in a 0. 18 um CMOS Technology, which is applied to a 5 GHz wireless LAN(WLAN) transceiver system. The PGA utilizes a multi-stage selectable amplifier system structure and comprises cross-coupled cascode and current feedback building blocks. To prevent the gain resolution of PGA being affected from the differences of process corners, a fine adjustment mechanism of its voltage gain is implemented. Post-layout simulation results exhibit that the PGA's voltage gain can be varied from 0 dB to 41 dB with 1 clB step, it has a full output swing of 1 Vpp, achieves a -3 dB bandwidth of 10 MHz, and consumes less than 21. 1 mW power from 1.8 V supply.
