Techniques for supporting translation of XML updating on XML views of relational data into SQL updating on the underlying relations are developed. These techniques are based on techniques for supporting translation of updating on object-based views of relational data into SQL updating on underlying relations. It is modified to suit the problem of translation of updating on XML views of relational data into updating on the underlying relations.
