On the Zuo Jiang Guan in the Tang Dynasty

左降官是在唐玄宗以后大量出现的一种贬官形式,左降官特指因罪而被贬至边远地区任员外官的官吏。在唐代,左降官是一种特殊的贬官形式,左降官不仅集贬官的三种形式即降职、贬为闲职和至边远地区任职于一身,而且左降官在唐代还具有流放的性质。在唐代皇帝的诏令中,常常将左降官与流人相提并论。

Zuo Jiang Guan（左隆官） was one form of demotion in the Tang Dynasty which came into being after Emperor Xuan Zong. Zuo Jiang Guan was referred to the officials who were reduced in rank and appointed an unestablished-post in remote region. In the Tang Dynasty, Zuo Jiang Guan was a peculiar form of demotion, it had three kinds ： reduction in rank, dismissal from important post and assignment si＇necure, removal from the court and being transferred to a post in remote region, with a character of banishment.
