From Equivalence,Equivalent Effect to Correspondence:The Changing Ideas and Methodology in Modern Translation Studies

就观念和方法论而言,现代翻译研究经历了从语言学视角的微观研究到文化学派的宏观研究的转向,20世纪90年代初又兴起语料库翻译研究。对这些研究观念和方法的细致考察显示:“equivalence”这一概念虽贯穿了整个研究过程,但它并不能准确而全面地反映翻译事实。结论认为,从“语篇间对应”的视角出发进行翻译研究,可以更有效地观察、分析、解释翻译转换过程,从而避免在“equivalence”这一概念下的翻译研究在观念和方法论方面的局限。

As far as the idea and methodology are concerned, modem translation studies have witnessed a turn from the linguistic approach to the cultural one, and the corpus-based approach has been in the rise since the early 1990s. A careful examination of their respective underlying ideas and methodologies indicates that the concept of ＂equivalence＂ fails to characterize the translation activities, though it has been adopted throughout the process of translation research. It is concluded that translation studies from the perspective of ＂intertextual correspondence＂ make it possible to observe, analyze and explain more effectively the process of translation transfer and to avoid the limitations of translation studies in terms of ＂equivalence＂.
