周作人的关于“美文”的思想有一个产生发展过程。他所说的“美文”开始近似于西方的Essay,后来又接近于晚明小品,在这种融会中西,贯通古今的借鉴、模仿、创造中他形成自己独特的,也是经典的“美文”思想。

There is a productive and developing process in the beautiful essay of ZHOU Zuo-ren. His beautiful essay is similar to the western essay first, then to the essay of Ming dynasty. But his unique and classic essay thought had been formed in the process of mixing the western thought and Chinese thought, linking the past and present learning, limitation and creation.
