The Three Gorges ancient path to Shu at the south of Changjiang River used to be another important land channel into Shu besides the Three Gorges sea-route, which began east at the mouth of Jiangshi Xikou, Dianjun at the south of Changjiang River, Yichang of Hubei, and extended west to Moudao Sulakou, Lichuan, with a distance of 500 kilometers. It connects Jingchu mountains and rivers and West Sichuan Plain, the "the Kingdom of Heaven", and the National Route of 318 built in the 1970s went west just along this path. The ancient path was initially built in the time of Shang and Zhou Dynasties, used during the Qing and Han Dynasties, and up to today. In history, it was always used as a military pass in time of dynasty war fires , while as a communication lifeline in time of prosperity. The sites, mausoleums, caches, bridges, steles, flaggings and other cultural relics vividly depict busy pictures where the businessmen, the postmen as well as the soldiers and tribe crowds are coming and going in a hurry.
