摘要
日俄战争后,日本以经营铁路作为侵略中国东北之重要手段,为此而在东北展开大规模攫取铁路权益的活动。为了抗衡日本,清政府拟引进英资修筑“新法铁路”,遭到日本激烈反对。由于清政府的软弱无能和策略失误,新法铁路计划以失败告终。
In wake of the Russian-Japanese War, Japan prioritized railway-management on its policy agenda in its invasion of Northeast China, and gra d a lion' s share of the rights and interest of the local railway lines. In efforts of resistance, the then Qing Government planned to construct "Xin-Fa" Railway with capital investment from the Britain. This aroused radical protest from the Japanese side. Eventually the Qing Government gave up the "Xin-Fa" Railway project due to its impotence and mistaken decision-making.
