“左右为巫难”——从《推销员之死》的两个译本谈翻译中的异化和归化

Foreignizing Method,Domesticating Method and Their Effects on the Two Chinese Versions of Death of a Salesman

异化法和归化法是每一位译者面对具体的译作时都要作出的选择,不是二者选一,就是两相结合。本文拟对《推销员之死》的两个译本作一分析,从两位译者用北京话翻译纽约方言的得失、他们如何处理中英文在表达惊讶、愤怒等感情方面的差异以及如何处理剧作中的称谓等三个方面来探讨不同的翻译方法对同一部作品的翻译产生的影响。

Foreignizing method and domesticating method have long been a choice each translator has to face in his or her translation practice, either by choosing one of them or by combining the two together. This paper provides an analysis of the two Chinese versions of Death of a Salesman in terms of adopting different translation methods and their effects. They are compared in three aspects： the losses and gains in using Beijing local dialect to depict the Brooklyn dialect; how the two translators cope with the difference in expressing exclamation and anger in Chinese and English; how they deal with the various addressing ways in the play.
