On the Significance and Spirit of Paper-cutting

中国剪纸作为传统艺术的一种,在民俗活动中占有很重要的地位。对于剪纸,若是不能“知其味”,“得其神”,那就没有真正达到艺术鉴赏水平。剪纸是中华民族的一朵奇葩,是劳动人民对过去的回忆和对未来美好生活的渴望,它是勇敢执着精神的象征,更是自然生命的体现。

Chinese paper-cutting, as one of the traditional arts, places an important part in folks＂ activities. As to paper- cutting, if we can＂t understand its significance and spirit, we won＂t be able to get any kinds of arts appreciation. Paper-cutting is one of our Chinese treasures, which involves the working class＂ recollection of the past, and their longing for splendid future lives; it is also the symbols of the courage and inflexibility spirits, and natural lives as well.
