Chaozhou folk song and Chaozhou dialect song are both the local art forms that have been developed in the Chaoshan district since the founding of new China. The dialects spoken in the three cities of east Guangdong, all belong to the south Min language system. However, their pronunciations are not exactly the same, hence the pronunciations of the folk song and of the dialect song are quite different. The philharmonic people have been insisting on their own way of pronunciation. In this paper, the author argues that the main difference between the two songs lies in the treatment on the sound and the rhythm when written. Viewing the two local music, viewpoints are introduced concerning the history and the changing of Chaozhou folk song, the beginning and the development of the Chaozhou dialect song and the harmony and the disharmony of the Chaoshan pronunciation and the music rhythm.
