从湖湘文化的特征看维新时期湖南“文明排外”思想形成的原因

On the Characteristics of the Huxiang Culture and the Formation of Hunan's Civil Antiforeignism in the Period of the Movement of Reform

湖湘文化是长期以来在现今湖南境内形成和发展起来的一种区域文化。它与其他区域文化比较有自己鲜明的特点,主要体现在:(一)注重经世致用,具有一种躬行实践的务实精神;(二)具有强烈的爱国主义传统;(三)善于兼收并蓄,具有博采众家的开放精神和创新精神。该文作者认为这些特点成为甲午战后湖南有识之士由“盲目排外”迅速转为“文明排外”思想形成的深层次的原因。

Huxiang culture is an areal culture formed and developed in Hunan. It has some characteristics which mostly embody as follows-first, pay attention to study knowledge in order to apply it with realism, have a spirit to be practical; second, have strong patriotic tradition; third, have open and innovative spirit to learn from others. This paper maintains that these characteristics provide abundant and deep reasons for Hunan people to transform from blind opposition to everthing foreign to antiforeign civilly after the Sino-Japanese war.
