仔细观察当代的人类生活就会发现,一方面他的外部生活表现得是那么优秀、独特,在他周围聚集着巨大力量,可是在他所创造的艺术中却暴露出其内心的贫乏和软弱,两者之间的不协调实在令人震惊。这种鲜明的对照是可怕的,“它反映出人危险地落后于自己的创造发明”。现代艺术向我们敞开着人的精神世界的困惑,追寻着在无神世界中如何安顿精神家园的门径。因此,在现代世界中,艺术应当成为最高意义上的启蒙之域。

Carefully observing human life in the present times, we will find that through his external life man seems to be so outstanding and unique that there is gigantic strength gathered around him, but his inner poverty and weakness are revealed by the arts he himself creates. It is really shocking that there should be a complete lack of co - ordination between the former and the latter. The sharp contrast between the two is terrible. ＂It reflects the fact that man is dangerously lagging behind his own inven- tions. ＂ Modern arts lay bare unrestrictedly the perplexity of man＇ s spiritual world and search for man＇ s confusion about where to find a place for his spiritual home in this world of atheists. However, ＂where there is danger, there grow rescuing forces. ＂ In the modern world, arts should become the enlightening domain in its loftiest sense.
