Ulysses, who is a classical hero, has been rewritten in the western literary history time and again. T. S. Eliot also is partial to this theme. This paper analyses a series of Eliot＇ s poems concerning the theme of Ulysses. The paper argues that Eliot＇ s Ulysses is deeply influenced by Dante＇ s Ulysses in Divine Comedy. Following the footsteps of Dante, Eliot chooses Ulysses as the spokesman of his own age as well. Eliot creates a gallery of modem Ulysses： Prufrock, Gerotion, Phlebas and Sweeney, who are endowed with the profound modem spirit.
