On Pragmatic Vagueness in Diplomatic Speeches

本文借鉴关联理论和顺应论关于语境和言语交际的观点,从认知角度分析外交发言中语用含糊的生成和解读,从而说明使用含糊表达是一种交际策略,是善于运用语言的表现。

This paper aims to interpret the implication of pragmatic vagueness in the light of cognitive theories, relevance theory and adaptation theory. As a result, it suggests that pragmatic vagueness is a communicative strategy and appropriate use of it signifies good command of languages.
