Objectives To identify factors influencing behavioral intentions toward caring mechanically ventilated patients among nurses in ICU and non- ICU settings in Chengdu. Methods The modified version of Attitude, Subjective Norm, Behavioral Intention of Nurses Toward Mechanically Ventilated Patients(ASIMP) was used to investigate 282 ICU and non- ICU nurses in three tertiary-level hospitals in Chengdu. Results Correlation analysis showed positive relationships between variables of theory of reasoned action. The regression analysis alSO showed that between behavioral attitute and subjective norm, the former is a more powerful predictor of behavioural intention. Conclusions Education, behavioral attitude, subjective norm, mechanical ventilation training, work experience and being ICU nurses had significantly positive effect on behavioral intention.
