This paper holds that there must be some ideas behind DU Fu＇s love of people, which regarded people as foundation of state. From this standpoint, this paper points out that in the specific context, DU Fu inherited and extended the Mencius idea of people as foundation of state. In the poems of DU Fu, the idea of people as foundation of state allies with his love of people, his anti-war thought and his attitude toward the monarch. DU Fu expressed this thought vividly through his style that is grave and poignant, genres that are suited to the content and expressional patterns that are varied, extending a deep influence on later generations.
