Applications of Percussion and Wind Music in Tang Dynasty Imperial Court

唐代的鼓吹曲可分为鼓吹部、羽葆部、铙吹部、大横吹部、小横吹部等五部,现存曲目85曲。鼓吹曲既用于皇帝、皇太后、皇后、皇太子、亲王以及一定品级大臣的仪仗,又用于凯乐、合朔伐鼓、大傩、婚葬和夜警晨严等场合。另外,皇帝加元服、纳后等多项礼仪活动都要使用鼓吹乐。

The percussion and wind music in the Tang Dynasty can be divided into the five parts of percussion and wind, Yubao, Naochui, horizontally blowing major and minor. And now it has a repertoire if 85 pieces left. The music was used not only on the ceremonies for emperors, empress dowagers, queens, crown princes, princes and ministers of certain ranks, but also on the occasions for victory, Heshuofagu ,Danuo, marriages, funerals, night alarm and morning curfew. In addition, the music was also used in many ritual ceremonies, such as enrobing the emperor night alarm and morning curfew, the emperor marrying his queen and so on.
