“忧患”一词源出《易传》,“忧患意识”作为一种文化精神的性格被徐复观提炼出来后,已经成为诠释中国传统文化的共识。徐复观所意旨的“忧患意识”不仅源自儒家,也基于道家,通过徐复观的诠释,不仅张扬出“忧患意识”中的阳刚之美,而且揭示出其中所蕴含的文化精神结构,从而彰显出“忧患”中的天地精神。

The word ＂Youhuan,＂ i.e. concerned, comes from Yizhuan, while ＂concerned consciousness＂ as a characteristic of cultural spirit abstracted by Xu Fuguan has become a common view by which traditional Chinese culture can be explained. His explanations originated from the Confucian and Taoism not only illustrate the positive and obvious meaning of the ＂concerned＂, but also reveal the structure of cultural spirit it conveys, thereby embodying its superior realm of heaven and earth.
