This paper describes the kinds and properties of the silicone finishes and their applicationsin the textile industry. The various function groups were introduced into silicone backbone.According to their characteristics of chemical reactions and reaction with fabrics, the threeclasses of silicone finishes currently avaiable may be classifed as nonreaction, conventionalreactive and organofunctional types. The silicone finishes possess some better specific proper-ties, such as high thermostability, low surface tension and toxicity, no irritation, odourlessand smelless, excellent water repellency, good water vapor permeability. Hence, the siliconefinishes can be used in cotton, silk, wool, polyester fibre cloths and so on. These finishes notonly improve crease and shrinkage resistance, wash and wear, water repellent, antiseptic,attrition, and stick resistance, but also impart the cloths softer, chubbier, resilience andsmooth handles.
