With existentialism, this paper tries to reappraise the main characters＇ personality value in The Scarlet Letter. By emphasizing ＂ choosing＂ and ＂bearing＂ in existentialism regarding people＇s essential theory of freedom to analyze the three main characters, showing the difference of the superiority of their personality, it affirms again that Hester Prynne is a heroine＇s image.
