沃勒斯坦是世界体系论的主要代表人物,对资本主义世界体系持批判态度,被学术界称为“新左派”。虽然在很多方面深受马克思的影响,但是在《历史资本主义》中他提出了既不同于自由主义者也不同于马克思主义者的观点:即历史资本主义不是历史的进步。
